| -WHAT IS A BRIDGE? When a tooth is lost due to decay or gum disease, a dental bridge is a permanent method that is used to replace them. Dental bridges are false teeth, which are fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. Is is possible to construct a bridge only if there is a healthy tooth on both sides of the open space. The teeth that are adjacent to the open space are reduced in size to accommodate a crown. These crowns act as anchors, while the tooth filling the open space acts as a pontic. The picture on the bottom shows how teeth are prepared to accept a bridge. |
